Each breast contains 15 to 20 lobes of glandular tissue, arranged like the petals of a daisy. The lobes are further divided into smaller lobules that produce milk for breast-feeding. Small tubes ducts conduct the milk to a reservoir that lies just beneath your nipple. After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States. Breast cancer can occur in both men and women, but it's far more common in women.
The breast is one of two prominences located on the upper ventral region of the torso of primates. In females, it serves as the mammary gland , which produces and secretes milk to feed infants. At puberty , estrogens , in conjunction with growth hormone , cause breast development in female humans and to a much lesser extent in other primates.
Breast surgery and breast reconstruction can be for cosmetic reasons, however, more often than not its purpose is to re build the breast after surgery due to illness. Types of typical surgery for example are breast reduction , augmentation , mammoplasty , mastopexy , lumpectomy and mastectomy. Our most recent project being show cased in this gallery was the completion of medical artwork covering the mastectomy surgcial procedures intended for patient education materials. It is the surgical removal of one or both of the breasts partially or completely.
