Kissing, frenching, snogging, sucking face—the prime mover of the sex world. It can make or break the chances of things going further. Nothing is a bigger turnoff than kissing someone who is haphazard, sloppily drunk, or or who is blind to body language. Strike a balance with the tongue: No tongue at all feels like junior high, too much tongue feels like tenth grade. If you have to ask…. Oh, and please close your eyes.
This week on the Consults blog, the psychiatrist Dr. Several readers had questions about young people who were questioning their sexual orientation. My question is about the Q Questioning subgroup of L. I am unsure how best to help my younger teens a son 13 and daughter 15 steer a course through a very complex terrain. Their high school has a sophisticated urban middle class culture, strong and clear antibullying policies and practices and an environment of tolerance which reflects that in our own home. The school has an openly gay population including senior students mostly aged 16 and over as well as gay teachers and other gay staff.
I'm no expert on sex and sexuality. I mean, I just turned 26 years old, so I'm really not an expert on anything at this point in my life. That said, in the five years since I became sexually active I know, I know, late bloomer over here I've realized that sex is inherently kind of weird , and that the "weird" things everyone does during sex — like substituting spit for lube or cracking awkward jokes mid-bang — aren't actually that weird at all. The fact that sex gets weird sometimes is a universal truth that I think everyone can relate to. Regardless of whether you're gay, straight, bi, trans, polyamorous, or monogamous as hell, every sexually active person has probably felt mortified by the "weird" things people sometimes do in bed , and I totally get it.
But it's not that simple. And then, you could have at it all you wanted. But what I wasn't taught in Sunday School is that the Bible's teachings on sex have been interpreted in many different ways. I didn't know that the early Christians actually started practicing celibacy because they were convinced the end of the world was near.
